I would never recommend letting a child go by themselves - and nowadays I would go up to the door with the child too - you just can't trust anyone these days!!

I totally agree with your ideas of a buddy system. I do truely understand how you cannot trust anybody these days. You see so many news cast of people putting stuff in candy, so yes I too will go up to the door with my children. I also try to stay in familiar surroundings such as my hometown. I feel a little safer if I kind of know the people we are trick-or-treating, but then again there is that old saying "You should never judge a book by its cover"
